LFC Women’s Missy Bo Kearns Mural Unveiled

A brand new mural for the Liverpool FC Women’s team, painted by local mural artist Paul Curtis, has been officially unveiled along Anfield Road today.

The new piece of art shows LFCW midfielder and local football talent Missy Bo Kearns proudly kissing the FA Women’s Championship trophy in the 2021/22 season, with a young football fan looking up to her hero.

Liverpool FC Women Supporters Club have led this project with funding from the Welcome Back Fund and have been supported by Your Housing Group who very kindly offered one of their houses to be painted.

Jay Goodall, chair and founder of LFCWSC, said “I am extremely delighted that we have been able to oversee this project. There are lots of murals of the men’s players, past and present, around Liverpool and to have a women’s image projected on such a large scale in the very heart of our football club is a fantastic and exciting opportunity.”

“Not only will the mural help to promote our women’s team, it will also give young girls and the next generation of aspiring footballers something to see and know that their dreams can come true. We are extremely grateful and thankful to everyone who has been involved in making this happen.”

Reds’ no.7 Missy Bo Kearns had no idea that the mural was happening until it was almost complete. Her family and some of the supporters who knew about the project were great at keeping everything under wraps until an image of the unfinished piece was finally leaked online.

Elated with the surprise, Kearns said “I’m really honoured to have a mural and proud that it’s by Anfield amongst a lot of the men’s murals. It’s great to show how much the women’s game is growing and hopefully little girls who go to a match at Anfield will see it and know that it’s possible to grow up and play football.”

“It’s great to show how far our team came last year to win the Women’s Championship and it’s an iconic photo for me winning my first trophy for Liverpool FC. Me and my family are speechless. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, it really means a lot”.

12 year old Missy Bo fan Bryony Rees-Winter also had no idea about the mural and was very excited when she heard that she was featured in it. Bryony told us “When I found out about the mural I was speechless. I look up to Missy Bo a lot so I am very honoured and proud that I am part of her mural.”

“It means a lot to me and I cannot put into words how incredible this mural is. I was very excited and shocked when I found out as I had no idea what was going on. It made me very, very happy!”.

Artist Paul Curtis said “It’s been a pleasure to be involved in this project, especially because it’s the first recognition of the LFC Women’s team in mural form, which has been long overdue. It’s been lovely to meet Missy, Bryony and everyone else who has been involved.”

“One of the aims of it is to inspire girls to get into football and any sports. Already, I’ve seen the impact of this and the girls along this street have been made up to see Missy Bo on the picture.”

This spectacular new mural can be found on the corner of Tancred Road/Anfield Road, directly opposite Hotel Anfield.
